Following a stretch of 12 misses, including several near ones during her current campaign, the four-year-old chestnut mare You’re My Sweetie at last secured a victory in 2026, capturing the ninth of ten races at Caymanas Park on Saturday, September 12.
Conditioned by Gary Subratie and partnered with jockey Dane Dawkins, the You’re My Sweetie launched a late charge from mid-field to pull ahead by 2 lengths over the 5½-furlong distance, clocking 1:09.3. The fractional times were recorded at 23.4, 49.1, and 1:02.4. The field comprised local four-year-olds and older with a single lifetime win, as well as foreign-bred maidens four years old and up.
This result marked just the second trip to the winner's circle across 26 career outings for You’re My Sweetie, pushing her cumulative purse earnings past the $1.3 million threshold.
Lacking the early speed to be with the leading pack, You’re My Sweetie found a comfortable rhythm in the middle of the field while Moonlight Song (Evertte Clunis) showed the way ahead of Raging River (Tevin Foster), Super Storm (Emelio McLean), and Money Mission (Bebeto Harvey) heading toward the half-mile marker.
Trailing the pacemakers as they straightened for home, You’re My Sweetie found an extra gear inside the final furlong and closed relentlessly down the centre of the track. She surged past the front-runners to seal a convincing victory, leaving Raging River to take second spot ahead of Moonlight Song in third.
