A five-year-old grey horse trained by Richard Azan ended his five-race slump with a gritty performance to capture the Arthur Jones Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Guided by jockey Tajay Suckoo, Mojito bided his time in the middle of the pack during the six-furlong (1,200m) Overnight Allowance feature before executing a sharp rail-skimming move late in the stretch.
Positioned fourth early on, the grey watched as Formalist (Abigail Able), Wall Street Trader (Nicardo Carr), and Cooler King (Reyan Lewis) controlled the initial tempo.
Suckoo conserved energy along the inside rail rounding the half-mile turn. Although Wall Street Trader looked poised for victory after taking charge deep in the straight, Mojito unlocked a powerful extra response in the final furlong, surging through an inside gap to pull away by 1½ lengths.
Wall Street Trader retained second, while a late-closing Zulu Warrior (Tyrese Anderson) snatched third.
Mojito stopped the clock in 1:13.1, following fractions of 23.4, 48.0, and 1:00.2.
The calculated ride marked another milestone for Suckoo, who recently shed his apprentice allowance after securing his 60th career win.
“The trainer said to just get a good break at the start of the race but don’t be in any rush because Mojito has speed so I must not rush him and try to burn him out,” Suckoo said.
“I got a good break and I was right there. I put him on his bit and when I was ready, I just moved. At the half-mile, I got a little bounce and I made it clear while coming into the quarter. It was a little bit tight and I asked for my space and they end,” he ended.
