Trained by Jason DaCosta, the U.S. import entered the local circuit with a modest overseas record of one win from three starts.
Under local racing rules, that solitary victory forced him to make his Jamaican debut at the higher Overnight Allowance level on August 1.
Contested over 5 furlongs round, Gallant Groom acquitted himself well by finishing second, just three-quarters of a length behind Another One.
What caught the eye of seasoned punters that day was his late charge in the final furlong, leaving a distinct impression that a step up in distance would suit him far better.
