Never Despair was not the best away when the gates opened for the five furlongs round call. He was judiciously ridden by champion jockey Raddesh Roman, who did not rush the Peter-John Parsard trained colt.
Roman waited patiently on the inside rails then made his move 1 ½ furlongs out to catch longtime leader Raging River (Andrew Wright).
Never Despair was Roman’s first success after returning from injuries.
