After opening his career with a victory over five furlongs straight as a three-year-old on November 15, 2025, Formalist underwent a lengthy layoff before making a triumphant return on June 6, where she captured a four-furlong straight contest.

The chestnut colt by Bold Conquest out of Miss Formality, trained by Jason DaCosta, quickly completed a hat-trick of victories on June 13 over five furlongs straight, bringing his tally to three wins from three starts—all down the straight course.

Formalist experienced his first setback on July 25, finishing third behind Danka and Ascend over five furlongs straight.

Following three wins from four starts on the straight, trainer DaCosta stepped up the challenge on Saturday, August 15, by entering the colt to turn around the bend for the first time in the 6 ½-furlong Jamaica Jockeys’ Guild Trophy.

With regular rider Robert Halledeen, Formalist went straight to the front, establishing an early advantage over Prince Roy, ridden by Dane Dawkins. Halledeen increased the speed around the turn, allowing Formalist to widen his margin as they entered the home straight.

Although Prince Roy mounted a persistent late challenge and narrowed the gap in the final furlong, Formalist held firm to stop the clock in 1:19.4 after setting split times of 23.3, 46.4, and 1:13.0. Prince Roy finished second, with Four Thirty claiming third, as the winning margins were recorded at 2 ¼ lengths by 2 ¾ lengths.

Having cleared his age-group conditions with four wins from five career starts, Formalist now moves into the Overnight Allowance category, where he faces a tougher level of competition.

Formalist has now earned close to $2 million for his connections.
