We Jammin, the even‑money favourite who finished fourth in the 12‑furlong Jamaica Derby on Thursday, August 6, 2026, will now take a pause in his career.
His trainer, Peter‑John Parsard, confirmed in a post‑Derby interview that the chestnut colt will not return to competitive action until next year, and even that is not guaranteed.
“We at all times have to take the health and condition of the horse into consideration, and based on the requisite advice by the experts, the decision has been taken to give We Jammin time off to rest and recuperate,” Parsard explained.
“He has done so well for us, winning the Jamaica Two‑Year‑Old Stakes, the Prince Consort Stakes and the St Leger, so we have to now protect his interest.”
Pressed on why such an extended layoff was necessary, Parsard said: “He has had some issues during his overall career that need to be fully sorted out, and we believe that the time is now right for him to take a rest. Following that break, a full assessment will be done to see where we, as the connections, go from there.”
At his peak, We Jammin has looked the most complete three‑year‑old in training. After his commanding victory in the seven‑furlong Prince Consort Stakes, he faltered to sixth in The Kingston, then missed the 2000 Guineas, won by Salute The Don.
Returning on July 5, he produced a compelling performance in the 10‑furlong Jamaica St Leger, smashing rivals with ease. That triumph set the stage for his Derby challenge, where he ultimately finished fourth.
We Jammin, a chestnut colt by Bern Identity out of Jammin, now heads into his break with a career tally of four wins from seven starts, amassing earnings of just over $6.5 million.
