FIRST – DREAM CATCHER
Dream Catcher confirmed her supremacy among the three-year-old fillies, adding the Oaks to her victories in the Thornbird, Portmore, and 1000 Guineas. From the break, she hugged the inside rails, tracking smoothly along the backstretch. Three furlongs out, jockey Tevin Foster made the decisive push, sending Dream Catcher clear into the straight. The race was effectively sealed at that point, and she crossed the line 2¾ lengths ahead in 2:07.4. Notably, her time was a second faster than colt We Jammin’s St Leger clocking, though at a different time and under different conditions. Dream Catcher’s 2026 record now reads seven starts, five wins, one second, and one unplaced, with earnings surpassing $7.5 million. This was trainer Jason DaCosta’s third Oaks triumph in four years, and Foster’s first.
SECOND – GIVING THANKS
Giving Thanks produced another determined effort, adding to her third-place finish in the 1000 Guineas. Reyan Lewis kept her close to Dream Catcher throughout, but when the winner surged, she could not match strides. Still, she kept on resolutely, narrowing the gap late. With one win from six starts, Giving Thanks continues to progress but has her three-year-old conditions left to fulfil.
THIRD – GULFSTREAM CAT
A gritty performance saw Gulfstream Cat miss second place by only a neck. Settled in fifth behind Taylor Made and Minniehaha, she launched her run 2½ furlongs out, switching to the inside rails entering the straight. She stayed on well in the final stages, showing determination. With one win from 13 starts, Gulfstream Cat still has her three-year-old conditions to meet, but this was a commendable Oaks run.
FOURTH – MINNIEHAHA
Minniehaha shared the lead for much of the journey with Taylor Made. Once in the straight, her stamina faltered, but she clung on gamely to finish fourth, about five lengths adrift overall. Her record now stands at one win from nine starts, with her three-year-old conditions still ahead.
FIFTH – TIA MARIA
Expectations were higher after her nine-furlongs and 25 yards prep win on July 11, but Tia Maria failed to fire. She raced near the rear throughout and made no meaningful headway in the closing stages. Her career tally is now two wins from ten starts.
SIXTH – ANOTHER WOW
Never featured in the contest and finished well beaten.
SEVENTH – LEXI LOU
Lexi Lou once again disappointed, failing to live up to early promise.
EIGHTH – TAYLOR MADE
Pressed the pace early alongside Minniehaha but began to retreat three furlongs out. Her effort reinforced the view that she is best suited to sprinting distances.
NINTH – SKY IS THE LIMIT
Never a factor and finished last.
SUMMARY
The Oaks belonged emphatically to Dream Catcher, whose dominance across the Classics now places her firmly at the top of her generation. Giving Thanks and Gulfstream Cat showed grit in defeat, while Minniehaha and Taylor Made highlighted stamina limitations. The rest must regroup for lesser assignments.
