The re-activation of the Diamond Mile, alongside an overall increase in purses across the day’s programme, marks another significant milestone on the Jamaican racing calendar.

1 – GIRVANO (USA)
An unpredictable campaigner from overseas, Girvano can flash ability when the mood strikes. However, in this company his limitations are exposed, and he is expected to be outclassed.
2 – ROYAL POPPY (USA)
Still adjusting to local racing. Her lone effort produced a third-place finish, 11 lengths adrift of Phenomenal Power and Diesel Power at the Overnight Allowance level. Now pitched against hardened rivals in the Diamond Mile, Royal Poppy faces a task beyond her current scope.
3 – OF A REVOLUTION (USA)
Six local starts have all been at sprint trips, never beyond seven furlongs. Stretching to a mile is a stern assignment for this US-bred sprinter. He is likely to influence the early fractions rather than the final outcome. Equipment change: visor removed.
4 – BARNABY (USA)
A horse who thrives over longer journeys. The mile sits slightly short of his optimum, but his stamina ensures he will be running on late. With the expected speed on display, Barnaby could sneak into the placings and reward exotic backers.
5 – FUNCAANDUN (USA)
Recently put in his place by Legacy Isle and Rideallday. The mile trip suits, and a small weight relief helps, but not enough to elevate him to winning contention. A top-four finish is his realistic ceiling.
6 – BLUE VINYL
One of only two locally bred contenders in this year’s Diamond Mile, sparking debate among pundits about the need to protect home-breds as was once done in the Superstakes. Realistically, Blue Vinyl is not expected to trouble the principals.
7 – PHENOMENAL POWER (USA)
Returned just two weeks after smashing the 7½-furlong track record on July 4, only to flop in a six-furlong sprint behind Desert of Malibu. That effort may have been a prep for this bigger target. Now facing elite opposition at a mile, Phenomenal Power must deliver perfection to prevail. He commands respect.
8 – SIR DON (USA)
Dominant on June 20 when dispatching stablemate Of A Revolution over 5½ furlongs. In this tougher mile test, Sir Don will not enjoy an uncontested lead. His early speed may disturb the front-runners, but sustaining it to the wire looks unlikely.
9 – LEGACY ISLE (USA)
The standout speedster of the field. Legacy Isle etched his name in history by lowering the seven-furlong record on June 6. He benefits from a drop in the handicaps, down from 126 lbs to 118 lbs. The key question is whether his brilliance extends to a mile. Arriving off three straight wins, he is a major player.
10 – PACK PLAYS (USA)
A consistent performer, better known for sprinting prowess than mile stamina. Pack Plays will be visible in the early stages but may falter in the final quarter. Equipment note: races with figure 8 on.
11 – NEO STAR (imported in utero)
Classified as locally bred due to his import status, Neo Star joins Blue Vinyl as the second home-bred in the line-up. He is unlikely to impact the Diamond Mile outcome.

The undisputed leader of the current Caymanas Park brigade. Perfectly drawn on the outside, Rideallday will enjoy a clear run in this mile, a distance tailor-made for him. Having already dismissed most of these rivals with ease, and despite conceding weight, he stands as the firm favourite to add another major triumph to his record.
