The Quick Galloper’s analysis of the final placings in the fillies-only, one-mile 1000 Guineas Classic, contested on Saturday, June 6, is now complete. Below, readers will find the finishing order with commentary.
FIRST – DREAM CATCHER
Sent off the odds-on favourite, Dream Catcher justified her status with authority. She travelled comfortably in mid-pack before unleashing her trademark surge in the straight, powering clear to win by six lengths in 1:41.2. Though the time was moderate, her dominance was undeniable. By Bern Identity out of Double Jeopardy, she now stands as the undisputed leader among three-year-old fillies. The next step is likely the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger in July. Yet, questions linger: can she match strides with the colts? Salute The Don’s 2000 Guineas clocking of 1:39.3 suggests a stern challenge. Using the accepted formula of one length equating to a fifth of a second, Dream Catcher would have finished fifth had she contested the 2000 Guineas.
SECOND – TAYLOR MADE
Taylor Made fought with grit to secure second. Patiently handled by Robert Halledeen, she dug deep when challenged in the final furlong, ensuring trainer Jason DaCosta a memorable one-two finish. A sprinter at heart, her toughness and refusal to yield will see her progress smoothly through her conditions to Overnight Allowance.
THIRD – GIVING THANKS
Once highly promising, Giving Thanks has not developed as expected. Still, this third-place effort was a reminder of her ability. She remains capable, particularly over middle distances, and should meet her conditions in due course.
FOURTH – ALIYA’S WILL
The surprise package of the Guineas. Aliya’s Will finished strongly, chewing up ground in the final furlong to claim fourth. This effort hints at significant improvement ahead, offering encouragement to her connections.
FIFTH – MINNIEHAHA
Prominent throughout but without impact, Minniehaha ran honestly without threatening. She is expected to progress steadily through her conditions.
SIXTH – ANOTHER WOW
Held up at the rear for most of the trip, Another Wow made some late headway but never threatened. Expectations were higher, and this run was below par.
SEVENTH – SKY IS THE LIMIT
Blazed early, clocking a sharp 45.2 for four furlongs, but faded badly in the straight. Her speed ensures she will complete her age conditions, especially at sprint distances.
EIGHTH – GULFSTREAM CAT
Never featured, but as a maiden she should soon shed that tag.
NINTH – CHARMING CHATTERBOX
Failed to deliver despite expectations. More was anticipated.
TENTH – VICTORIOUS LINKS
Showed early presence but could not sustain the effort.
ELEVENTH – LEXI LOU
Perhaps the biggest disappointment. After racing prominently early, she faded without offering resistance.
TWELFTH – PIPPA
Surprisingly absent from contention throughout.
THIRTEENTH – TIA MARIA
Raced at the back and offered no response in the straight. A disappointing effort.
FOURTEENTH – AWESOME KITTY
Never in the hunt. Connections may now target non-two company.
FIFTEENTH – AUSTOA
Showed little to suggest competitiveness.
SIXTEENTH – SOCIAL STORM
Made headlines early with her speed, but faded badly. Still, her early pace marks her as a future sprinting threat.
