The Jamaican racing fraternity is once again in mourning following the sudden passing of longtime owner and breeder, Desmond Lewis, who left us earlier today. Known affectionately as Dessie, Lewis raced under the banner of DTSL & Associates, and at the time of his untimely departure was serving as an executive member of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA).

Lewis’s passion for the sport was unwavering, and his presence in the winners’ enclosure was a familiar sight. His most recent triumph came on May 16, 2026, when Delightful One, trained by Oraldo Chin and ridden by Tevin Foster, carried his colours to victory. Over the years, he celebrated success with a string of notable horses, including Brenda Boy, A Gift From Ben, Faith Downie, King Antholew, and Waterman among many others.

Beyond the track, Lewis was admired for his leadership and dedication to the development of the sport. His role within TOBA reflected his determination to strengthen the industry and support fellow owners and breeders.

Interestingly, one his Lewis’ horses, a maiden, Time And Patience is listed to race in the sixth event on Sunday, June 7, Oraldo Chin is the trainer and Foster is the jockey.

The Quick Galloper’s team extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. The racing community has lost a stalwart whose contributions will not be forgotten.

Sleep In Peace, Dessie. Your legacy lives on in every stride.
