Apprentice jockey Shaheem Gordon fell from his mount on Easter Monday, April 6, 2026, during the 10th and final race at Caymanas Park. He was riding the horse Get A Pepsi when the dramatic spill occurred, resulting in a concussion that required him to be hospitalized for a short while.
After a recuperative break of approximately six weeks, Gordon returned to competitive racing on Saturday last (May 23), having secured five rides on the day. His first of those five came in the day’s fourth race atop the Jason DaCosta-trained Himaya.
The event was for three-year-old and up horses, an Optional Claiming call going seven furlongs. When the starter pushed the button to open the barriers, it was Sir Wong Don (Raddesh Roman) who went for the lead, tracked by Prince Marshall (Richie Shakes), with Himaya racing near the back in second-to-last position.
A sustained battle then emerged for headline dominance, while Himaya remained at the rear, seemingly without any hope of winning. Sir Wong Don gained the advantage, turning for home several lengths ahead of rivals. Himaya entered the final two furlongs several lengths adrift of Sir Wong Don. Then, slowly but surely, the acceleration by Himaya began. Gordon, riding with confidence, guided Himaya to the inside rails, where the roan mare found her best gallop.
As Sir Wong Don started to fade, Himaya’s late burst was enough to secure victory in the final stride by a head, with Money Box (Romane Gordon) a further 4 ½ lengths behind.
The winning time was 1:30.1, with fractions of 23.3 x 47.4 x 1:15.1. Himaya, a veteran of the racetrack, was winning for the third time from 51 starts. She now has career earnings of close to $3.5 million.
