Wah A Gwaan The On The Paper Favourite In 3-Y-O Labour Day Maiden Call

THREE YEAR OLDS 2026

The Labour Day race card on Monday, May 25, 2026, begins with a wide-open contest for three-year-old maidens sprinting four furlongs.

A bumper field of 14 has been declared, with several newcomers set to make their first competitive appearance.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of this intriguing opener is shared below in post-position order.

1 – ALTAIR

Bay filly (January 23) by Hedge Fund out of Impetus

Trainer – Donovan Plummer

Jockey – Phillip Parchment

Altair enters the racing arena for the first time, having shown promise in her morning gallops. While she has carried herself well at exercise, the one draw down the straight is traditionally a disadvantage, leaving her with much to overcome in this debut effort.

2 – LAWRENCE

Bay colt (February 19) by Spieth out of Alice and Trixie

Trainer – Anthony Nunes

Jockey – Raddesh Roman

Lawrence has already attracted attention at exercise, with observers impressed by his looks and movement. Many have tipped him as a likely winner, though the two draw on the straight course is a slight concern. Still, his preparation suggests he could be a major factor.

3 – SHE’S IDEAL

Bay filly (May 14) by Sensational Slam out of Winesha

Trainer – Robert Pearson

Jockey – Tyrese Anderson

She’s Ideal has raced twice and failed to make any impression, finishing well behind her rivals. Without signs of improvement, expectations remain low for her in this contest.

4 – HAVEMEWAITIN

Trainer – Anthony Nunes

Jockey – Omar Walker

Originally nominated to run on April 26 but withdrawn as a late non-starter. Havemewaitin is still finding his way and will need time to develop before being considered a serious contender.

5 – GULFSTREAM CAT

Bay filly (April 3) by Savoy Stomp out of Burning Clearance

Trainer – Carl Anderson

Jockey – Jemar Jackson

One of the more seasoned runners with seven starts already. Gulfstream Cat finished a close second to Awesome Kitty just nine days ago, showing determination and stamina. She appears to be a late-running type, likely to finish strongly, and should be included in exotic wagers such as the exacta, trifecta, superfecta, and hi-5.

6 – RUN FOR RUN

Chestnut filly (March 15) by Bern Identity out of Native Gold

Trainer – Steven Todd

Jockey – Andrew Wright

Run For Run was completely outpaced in his lone start and has not shown signs of progress. Expectations remain minimal.

7 – CIVIC ILLUSION

Bay filly (May 22) by Bern Identity out of Iamacitizen

Trainer – Patrick Lynch

Jockey – Dane Dawkins

Civic Illusion makes her debut without having been asked for much in training. She is expected to gain valuable experience here rather than contend for top honours.

8 – ANOTHER LINKS

Bay colt (March 3) by Sunshine N Shadow out of Chinitagoodaz

Trainer – Anthony Nunes

Jockey – Youville Pinnock

Equipment – Figure 8 on, first-time Lasix

Another Links returns after a lengthy 162-day break, last racing on December 14, 2025. Despite the addition of Lasix and a figure 8, his lack of experience makes him difficult to support.

 9 – NO CHASER

Chestnut filly (April 12) by Strikewhileitshot out of Naseen

Trainer – Edward Stanberry

Jockey – Eric Haughton

A newcomer who begins her racing education on Labour Day. No Chaser is expected to learn from the experience.

10 – CAPTAIN’S BAD GAL

Bay filly (March 8) by Bern Identity out of Celebration

Trainer – Marlon Brown

Jockey – Jaheim Anderson

Reports from the exercise track suggest this debutante has shown ability and carries herself well. Captain’s Bad Gal is one to keep an eye on, with potential to surprise.

11 – JO BOXER

Bay colt (March 16) by Casual Trick out of Billiejo

Trainer – Barrington Bernard

Jockey – Richie Shakes

Jo Boxer finished fifth on debut, showing some promise. With natural improvement, he could edge closer to the leaders this time.

12 – QUEEN MAJESTY

Bay filly (April 20) by Strikewhileitshot out of Valley of Queens

Trainer – Edward Stanberry

Jockey – Paul Francis

Equipment – Visor off, figure 8 off

Queen Majesty has raced seven times without displaying winning intent. Nevertheless, her experience could see her secure a minor placing.

13 – WAH A GWAAN

Bay colt (February 13) by Aveenu Malcainu out of She’s Irie

Trainer – Christopher Pierre

Jockey – Tevin Foster

Wah A Gwaan has been consistent in six starts, finishing second twice and third twice. His record makes him the most reliable candidate on paper, and he stands out as the leading contender to secure victory in this maiden event.

14 – CEE LILLIAN

Bay filly (February 12) by Wannabeaplayer out of Princess Zella

Trainer – Donovan Russell

Jockey – Shane Richardson

Equipment – Visor on

Cee Lillian was well beaten in her only start and offers little encouragement for improvement. She can be safely overlooked.
