The 7 ½ furlong Portmore Stakes, restricted to fillies, served its purpose as a key trial for the upcoming three-year-old Classic season. The contest run on Sunday, May 10, 2026, produced a decisive late-running victory for Dream Catcher, trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Tevin Foster.
DaCosta underlined his dominance in this pivotal prep, securing the top two positions.
The Quick Galloper presents the outcome in finishing order.
First – Dream Catcher
Despite her win in the seven-furlong Thornbird Stakes, Dream Catcher was overlooked as the off-time favourite. Settled well off the pace, she began her move with 2 ½ furlongs remaining. Forced to switch from the inside rail to the outside in the straight, she accelerated strongly, sweeping past rivals to score by eight lengths. Dream Catcher is expected to start favourite in the 1000 Guineas, with the extra half-furlong suiting her running style. Her performances suggest she thrives over longer distances, making her a leading contender for the Classics.
Second – Taylor Made
Ridden with restraint, Taylor Made tracked Pippa before making her move at the turn. She gained the advantage entering the straight and fought determinedly, only to be passed late by Dream Catcher and narrowly edged by Lexi Lou before reclaiming second. Taylor Made remains best suited to sprint trips, with seven furlongs likely her upper limit. Nevertheless, her speed will influence the outcome of the 1000 Guineas.
Third – Lexi Lou
Lexi Lou raced prominently behind the leaders and stayed on in the final stages. She challenged Taylor Made but was unable to repel Dream Catcher’s surge, losing second place narrowly. The first-time application of the figure eight appeared to aid her performance. Lexi Lou is gaining valuable experience and is progressing at the right time for the Classics.
Fourth – Sky Is The Limit
Positioned mid-pack early, Sky Is The Limit stayed on resolutely in the straight to secure fourth. Her steady improvement suggests she could play a stronger role in the Classics, particularly over the mile of the 1000 Guineas, where a top-four finish is within reach.
Fifth – Passion And Beyond
Held up at the rear, Passion And Beyond made late progress in the straight. She appears best suited to longer distances, with the Jamaica Oaks (10 furlongs) shaping as her most realistic target.
Sixth – Pippa
Making only her second career start after a maiden win, Pippa showed early speed to lead before fading in the straight. While outclassed by more seasoned rivals, she gained valuable experience and should improve with time.
Seventh – Aliya’s Will
Never threatened the principals and finished well behind.
Eighth – Another Wow
Surprisingly was not installed as the favourite, Another Wow stumbled leaving the gates and lost all chance. The jockey adopted a protective approach thereafter. This effort can be excused, and she remains a candidate to rebound in the 1000 Guineas.
Ninth – One Ianzha Links
Failed to feature at any stage.
Tenth – Victorious Links
Lost rider immediately after the start, eliminating any chance of participation.
