The Flightline colt who sold for an eye-popping $10.5 million Friday at the OBS Spring Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale in Florida arrived at trainer Bob Baffert’s barn Saturday night shortly before 9 p.m. (PT)
“He’s a specimen,” Baffert said Sunday morning. “A man among boys really. And with his pedigree, you know why he cost so much.”
Bloodstock agent Donato Lanni signed the sales ticket for the colt on behalf of owner Zedan Racing, whose principal is Saudi Arabian businessman Amr Zedan. The purchase price shattered the all-time OBS record of $3 million, which Zedan paid for Grade 1 winner Brant at the 2025 OBS March Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale. It is also the second-highest price ever paid for a 2-year-old in North America. In 2006, The Green Monkey, a Forestry colt, commanded $16 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Select Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
Baffert said the Flightline colt handled the cross-country trip to Santa Anita so well he’ll likely go the track Monday morning for light exercise.
“He’s a handful. He’s jumping out of his skin,” Baffert said.
The bay colt is from the first crop of Flightline, the brilliant 2022 Horse of the Year and champion older dirt male who was retired a perfect 6-for-6 with four Grade 1 wins, including the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and was named the 2022 World’s Best Racehorse. His dam is Lucrezia, a Grade 2-placed stakes-winning daughter of perennial top stallion Into Mischief.
The colt was bred in Kentucky by Edward Seltzer, Beverly Seltzer, and W.S. Farish. He first sold at auction as a weanling for $575,000 at the 2024 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds consigned the colt to the OBS sale. At the under-tack show, the colt wowed onlookers when blazing a furlong in :09.60, show’s co-fastest at the distance.
During his racing career, Flightline was trained by John Sadler and based at Santa Anita. He stands at Lane’s End in Versailles, Kentucky, where he commands 2026 stud fee of $125,000.
