The eighth event on Easter Monday’s raceday (April 6) is a 5 ½ furlong contest for three-year-old maidens.
Seven horses are entered, and here is The Quick Galloper’s analysis of each runner:
1 – BARBQ
Bay colt (April 18) by Bern Identity out of Dee Q
Trainer – Anthony Smith
Jockey – Demar Williams
Equipment – Visor off, cheek pieces on
Has been gradually improving across five starts but still looks some way off being competitive.
2 – SENSATIONAL DESTINY
Bay colt (March 17) by Successful Native out of Flying Machine
Trainer – Alford Brown
Jockey – Christopher Mamdeen
This colt has shown enough in recent outings to suggest he will get closer.
3 – MY FRIEND MICKI
Bay filly (January 21) by Savoy Stomp out of Bubbling Angeline
Trainer – Gary Griffiths
Jockey – Tajay Suckoo
Equipment – Figure 8 on
A seasoned runner with nine starts, often finishing in the money. A solid choice for exacta and trifecta wagers.
4 – WOODBURN HILLS
Bay filly (February 5) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Classical Princess
Trainer – Patrick Lynch
Jockey – Nicardo Carr
Debut runner who has not been asked for much in training. This race marks the beginning of her learning experience.
5 – MAYBELLE Bay filly (March 29) by Sensational Slam out of Let’s Get It On
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Abigail Able
The perennial bridesmaid with two seconds and two thirds from five starts. Likely to show speed and set the pace, though she has yet to race beyond five furlongs.
Still, her consistency gives her a live chance.
6 – SKY IS THE LIMIT
Chestnut filly (March 8) by Bern Identity out of Ransomware
Trainer – Peter-John Parsard
Jockey – Raddesh Roman
Equipment – Blinkers on
Impressive debut on March 7, finishing a close second over five furlongs. The extra half-furlong should suit, and her morning workouts have been encouraging. With the champion jockey aboard, her chances look strong.
7 – SCHOOL BUS LINKS
Bay colt (February 20) by Hedge Fund out of Swift Fox
Trainer – Barrington Bernard
Jockey – Youville Pinnock
Equipment – Figure 8
Another newcomer who has been progressing steadily in training. More experience will be needed before he becomes a real contender.
