Gordon wasted no time announcing himself on Saturday’s card. In the opening event, a mile-long maiden for four-year-olds, he partnered with the Chris Pearson-trained Smoking Thom. Sitting off the early pace set by Talona, ridden by champion jockey Raddesh Roman, Gordon waited for the right moment. As the field straightened for home, he urged Skyrizi forward, engaging Roman in a fierce duel that electrified the crowd. Neck and neck they battled, but Gordon’s relentless drive carried Skyrizi past the post by a neck.
The rivalry with Roman intensified in the third race, a four-year-old non-three event over 7 ½ furlongs.
