Is A Three-Way Battle Brewing Among The Top Jockeys?

It may be early days in the 2026 racing season, but already the whispers are growing louder: a fierce contest is shaping up among reigning champion Raddesh Roman, former titleholder Dane Dawkins, and crowd favourite Tevin Foster.

Roman closed out 2025 in commanding style, racking up 129 wins from 426 rides—a 30% strike rat to secure his second consecutive championship. That triumph came far easier than his nail-biting duel with Foster in 2024, a showdown that gripped even casual fans and went right down to the wire on the final raceday.

This year, however, the script feels different. With 11 racedays completed, Dawkins currently holds the edge with 13 wins from 57 rides. Roman sits close behind on 12 victories from 63 mounts, while Foster matches Roman’s tally from just 50 rides. The numbers hint at a tight race, but the real question is whether Dawkins and Foster will remain in Jamaica for the full season. Both spent much of 2025 campaigning in Canada, and neither has confirmed long-term plans for 2026.

Behind the leading trio, Robert Halledeen occupies fourth spot with seven wins, while the rising apprentice Jaheim Anderson has forced his way into the top ten. Anderson, who notched a triple in January, has already collected seven victories this year, though an injury has sidelined him for the last two racedays.

Another apprentice making strides is Demar Williams, voted as last year’s Most Improved Rider. He continues to build momentum, with four wins so far placing him seventh on the leaderboard.

Below is the top ten list as at the last raceday.
