The stage was set on Saturday, December 6, 2025, for a dramatic showdown in the trainers’ championship at Caymanas Park.
Former three-time champion Anthony Nunes entered the day trailing current leader and defending champion Jason DaCosta by just over $14.5 million in earnings.
Punters had their eyes firmly fixed on the Nunes barn, particularly two exciting recent importees:
Of A Revolution, entered in the Bruceontheloose Sprint (6 ½ furlongs).
Nautical Star, lining up in the prestigious US$300,000 Mouttet Mile.
Victory in both races would have secured Nunes a fourth trainers’ title. Even a win in the Mouttet Mile alone, with its lucrative $24.9 million first-place purse, could have been enough—depending on DaCosta’s fortunes.
EARLY EXCHANGES
Race 3: Nunes struck first when his Oaks winner, Linguist, was promoted to victory in the stewards’ room after DaCosta’s Fred The Master, first past the post, was disqualified.
Race 5: DaCosta responded swiftly. Rani Bangala, ridden by Tevin Foster, surged late to level the score at 1–1.
Race 9: The champion trainer edged ahead on the day as Brenda Boy powered home in the final furlong and a half, making it 2–1 in DaCosta’s favour.
NUNES’ COUNTERATTACK
The Nunes camp roared back in the Bruceontheloose Sprint. Of A Revolution, showcasing the brilliance hinted at in morning exercise spins, delivered a commanding 2 ¼ length victory. That triumph brought Nunes a handsome $8.25 million payday, reigniting hopes of a late surge.
THE GRAND FINALE: THE MOUTTET MILE
All eyes turned to the Mouttet Mile, the richest race on the card, US$300,000. Expectations were high for Nunes’ Nautical Star, but the colt never featured in contention, finishing a disappointing ninth. Stablemate Tiz Tok fared little better, crossing the line in seventh.
Relief for DaCosta came in the form of defending champion, Funcaandun, who battled gamely to secure third place, adding a valuable $4 million to his overall tally.
THE FINAL NUMBERS
With the dust settled, anticipation shifted to the Racing Office for the official earnings tally. The figures confirmed DaCosta’s advantage:
| Trainer | Earnings | Lead/Difference |
| Jason DaCosta | $80,513,500 | — |
| Anthony Nunes | $69,007,500 | $11,506,000 |
