Following the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa, racing action makes its return to Caymanas Park on Saturday, November 15, with the marquee Jamaica Cup Raceday scheduled for Sunday, November 16. The Sunday program is highlighted by three feature contests:
- The Jamaica Cup (Grade One, 9½ furlongs)
- The Port Royal Sprint (Grade One, 6 furlongs)
- The St Elizabeth Distaff (Overnight Allowance, 1 mile, fillies and mares 3 years and older)
As part of its continuing coverage, Quickgallopja.com revisits the seven runners from the 2024 Port Royal Sprint, ranked by finishing order, and examines their fortunes since that race.
FIRST – DESERT OF MALIBU – RADDESH ROMAN – GARY SUBRATIE
After her triumph in the Port Royal Sprint, which secured automatic entry into the Mouttet Mile, Desert of Malibu struggled to maintain form at the highest level. Health setbacks clearly hindered her progress, but she returned to winning ways on July 5, 2025, capturing the 7 1⁄2 furlong Clovis Metcalfe Trophy. For this talented mare to line up in the 2025 Mouttet Mile, she must once again claim victory in the Port Royal Sprint.
SECOND – WALL STREET TRADER – SHANE RICHARDSON – ROWAN MATHIE
Runner-up in the Port Royal Sprint, Wall Street Trader has since made seven appearances, adding two more wins to his record and pushing career earnings beyond $5.5 million. Despite flashes of brilliance, injuries have limited his consistency. A natural sprinter who also thrives at middle distances, Wall Street Trader is entered for the 2025 Port Royal Sprint, which appears to be his only realistic path into the Mouttet Mile.
THIRD – IS THAT A FACT – REYAN LEWIS – JASON DACOSTA
Active throughout 2025 with nine starts, Is That A Fact managed just one win, an Overnight Allowance mile on October 18. While unable to match the very best handicappers, he has remained a steady performer, regularly finishing in the frame. His campaign will not extend to the Mouttet Mile this year; instead, he is slated for the Bruceontheloose Sprint (6 1⁄2 furlongs) on Mouttet Mile Day.
FOURTH – PACK PLAYS – DICK CARDENAS – ROWAN MATHIE JR
From his fourth-place effort in the Port Royal Sprint, Pack Plays has proven himself a reliable competitor. He raced eight times thereafter, winning three, with two victories at 6½ furlongs and one at 5½ furlongs. In 2025, he has started seven times, again securing three wins, and has not finished worse than fourth all season. The American-bred colt has become a model of consistency and remains a force in sprint company.
FIFTH – PERFECT BREW – DANE DAWKINS – RICHARD AZAN
Perfect Brew endured a long wait before returning to the winners’ circle after the 2024 Port Royal Sprint, finally scoring on September 20, 2025. Sadly, his career ended abruptly on October 11 when he suffered a fatal injury in the I’m Satisfied Trophy, leading to his being put down.
SIXTH – MAJOR DANGER – SHANE ELLIS – PHILIP FEANNY
Major Danger has campaigned steadily in 2025, making seven starts but failing to secure a win. Though consistent in effort, he has not been able to match strides with the stronger opposition in his division. His resilience is evident, but success at the top level continues to elude him.
SEVENTH – SENSATIONAL MOVE – JAVANIEL PATTERSON – GARY SUBRATIE
Sensational Move’s career trajectory has been severely disrupted by recurring injuries. While still in training, his appearances have become infrequent, limiting his ability to build momentum. The talent remains, but his racing schedule has been sporadic at best.
