KINGSTON, Jamaica – It was a truly wonderful day for young trainer Alford Brown whose Trevor’s Choice just won the ninth of 10 races at Caymanas Park to give the conditioner a spanking double on the day.
Brown had previously won with Beach Boy ridden by Shane Ellis in the sixth race.
In the ninth, Trevor Choice (Raddesh Roman) was the second at odds of 4-5 with the odds on favourite the imported chestnut colt Sparkle Diamond (Simon Husbands) going off as the 3-5 favourite.
Sparkle Diamond gave no ends of trouble getting into his number one starting stall and it was little wonder that he was slowly out when the starter let them go.
Trevor’s Choice on the other was off to a flyer in the five-furlong round – non-restricted Overnight Allowance call.
Sparkle Diamond coupled quickly and flew by Trevor’s Call and looked all over the winner when entering the straight for the final two-furlong push.
But the legs of Sparkle Diamond did not hold and he started to lose ground rapidly as Roman really got Trevor’s Choice going for the victory in a time of 1:00.0.
Second was Anaso (Nicholas Hibbert) with third going to Princess Emanuelle (Paul Francis).
