On Paper, Exercise Sir Don Is The Choice In 2-Y-O Maiden Call

TWO-YEAR-OLD

The fourth race on Saturday, September 27, 2025, is a two-year-old maiden call in which both locally bred horses and foreigners pitted against each other.

Eight juveniles are entered to compete over four furlongs.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment is provided below for the scrutiny of readers.

1 – TIA MARIA

This chestnut filly (February 2) by Bold Conquest out of Zacapa is trained by Anthony Nunes with Dick Cardenas aboard. She returns for her second outing after placing fourth on debut (August 2), four lengths behind Salute The Don. Tia Maria has shown steady morning improvement but remains a work in progress, not quite ready to deliver a winning blow.

2 – SIR DON

A bay colt (USA May 8) by Spun To Run out of Enamored, trained by Anthony Nunes with Raddesh Roman in the irons. Sir Don has impressed in morning drills, especially his final gallop before debut, five furlongs in a sharp 58.0 seconds, with a brisk 45.1 for four. This American-bred newcomer is expected to make an immediate impact.

3 – MIDNIGHT TRAVELLER

This chestnut filly (February 13) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Esperanza is trained by Jason DaCosta with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Well-prepped for her debut, Midnight Traveller clocked 47.2 seconds for four furlongs on September 21. She’s expected to be competitive and could secure an exacta placing.

4 – INFINITY STAR

A bay filly (USA February 13) by Greenpointcrusader out of Batmizvah, trained by Winchester McIntosh with Demar Williams riding. Finished two lengths behind Fernando on debut (August 23). Infinity Star has trained well since and looks poised for another solid showing.

5 – COMUNA TRECE

This bay colt (USA May 28) by Maximum Security out of My Anguilla is trained by Oral Hayden with Shane Ellis aboard. Comuna Trece is progressing but still lacks the polish needed to threaten. Needs more time.

6 – WHATASPUN

A bay colt (USA March 16) by Spun To Run out of Miss Foo Foo, trained by Alford Brown with Michael Semple up. Showed glimpses of promise on debut (August 23). Whataspun is expected to run well and could be in the mix for his new trainer. Note that Whataspun races with the blinkers off.

7 – BRODY’S UNITY

A bay colt (USA February 15) by Brody’s Cause out of Bagatelle Park, trained by Al Brown with Richie Shakes in the saddle. Still learning the ropes. Will benefit from further development.

8 – BLYTHWOOD

A bay colt (February 14) by Wow Wow out of She’s An Introvert, trained by Anthony Nunes with Nicardo Carr aboard. Blythwood is not yet ready to match strides with this field. Note that Blythwood races with the tongue tie on.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT

Sir Don stands out as the likely winner based on his sharp morning gallops and pedigree. Midnight Traveller and Infinity Star are well-prepared and could complete the exacta or trifecta. Whataspun is the sleeper with potential to surprise. The rest will need more time to mature into contenders.
