The second race on Saturday, September 27, 2025, pays tribute to the distinguished Jamaica Derby winner, the exceptional thoroughbred Reprieve.
The Reprieve Trophy is open to local three-year-olds who are non-winners of two races, and to three-year-old imported maidens.
Six runners will face the starter over the rarely used distance of nine furlongs.
The Quick Galloper’s evaluation of the likely outcome is presented below.
1 - PRETTY BROWN TING
Sired by Northern Giant out of Sexy Moon, Pretty Brown Ting returns for her second non-winners of two attempt following an underwhelming debut. She remains green and in need of experience. That will come with time. Take note: Pretty Brown Ting races in a visor.
2 – MR LEE
This grey colt by Spieth out of Kipling Weekend scored on his second juvenile outing. However, in six subsequent races—including the 2000 Guineas—Mr Lee has failed to show any forward movement. That pattern is expected to persist. Take note: Mr Lee races without the tongue tie.
3 – STAR QUEST
A bay colt by Northern Giant out of Thegirlnextdoor, Star Quest has shown glimpses of improvement and may be capable of sneaking into the top three.
4 – ALCHEMY OF SOUL
By Spieth out of Emerald Belle, Alchemy of Soul broke his maiden on the ninth try, then placed fourth in the Derby and was narrowly beaten into second in the Winston Griffiths Classic. He thrives over extended distances, making nine furlongs ideal. Hard to look past.
5 – FAMILY FEUD
By Successful Native out of Fallabakami, Family Feud is not yet ready to contend with this group. Take note: Family Feud races without the figure eight.
6 – FLAG OF VICTORY
By Point of Entry out of Run The Flag, Flag of Victory is the lone foreign-bred in the field, a Canadian. Despite thirteen starts, the Canadian-bred has yet to finish in the top three. Still learning the ropes.
THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT
Alchemy of Soul stands out as the most accomplished and distance-suited runner in this line-up. His performances in the Derby and Winston Griffiths Classic signal readiness to dominate this field. The nine furlongs play directly to his strengths, and with no other contender showing comparable form or stamina, he is the clear choice.
Star Quest may sneak into the minor placings, while Pretty Brown Ting and Flag of Victory remain developmental prospects. Mr Lee and Family Feud have yet to show the necessary progression.
