Raffle horse Basilicus comes good at 5-1

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Basilicus, the horse won in a raffle put on by the promoting company two years ago, by punter Basil Gooden won her first race after three starts, moments ago in the third of 11 races at Caymanas Park.

Bred by Performing Magic – Regency, Basilicus a dark brown filly, trained by Gary Subratie and ridden by Anthony Thomas, raced prominently throughout to win by a neck.

The race was a Maiden Special Weight for three-year-old fillies only run over four furlongs.

Basilicus running at odds of 5-1 had to stave off the challenge of first timer Sheboom ridden by Dane Nelson. Sheboom got off to a bad start and was at the back of the field for most of the way before bursting through on the outside rails.

Born Diplomat (Shane Ellis), the 2-5 favourite was third.

The winning time was 47.1.
