Pack Plays stamped himself as a sprinter to watch when he powered home to an emphatic win in the Betting, Gaming, and Lotteries Commission Trophy at Caymanas Park on August 1, 2025. The American-bred dark bay colt covered the five-and-a-half-furlong trip in a slick 1:06.4, scoring by a decisive one-and-a-half lengths over Mojito and Mahogany.
Behind the scenes, trainer Ricardo Mathie had engineered a patient preparation plan after Pack Plays’ spirited outing against Wall Street Trader. By dialling back, the colt’s morning gallops and focusing on sharp breezes, Mathie ensured Pack Plays arrived at the BGLC Trophy with fresh legs and an eager mind. “Today vindicated our approach,” Mathie reflected. “Pack Plays had the engine to finish strongly, and I didn’t want to burn him out in training.”
Mathie immediately set his sights on Grade One targets. “He’s earned the right to mix it against the best,” said the trainer. “I’m looking at three Grade One sprints from September through November—domestic and possibly abroad in Barbados or Trinidad. He has the speed and the temperament to succeed across the Caribbean circuit.”
Pack Plays has shown he handles the big stage,” he said. “I can see him carrying this form into tougher company. If he relaxes and we get clear running, he’s going to be very tough to peg back.”
