As part of our in-depth coverage leading into the fourth Classic event of the 2025 racing season, we revisit the 2024 Jamaica Oaks to assess the current status of its thirteen entrants. Now four years old, these fillies have taken varied paths—some ascendant, some sidelined. Here's an update, ranked by their Oaks finish:
1st – Banadura
The 2024 Oaks champion transitioned immediately to Overnight Allowance after her triumph. However, the jump in class proved demanding, and she struggled to keep pace with seasoned rivals. Compounding her challenges, Banadura faced health setbacks that ultimately curtailed her career. She has since been retired to the breeding shed, where her pedigree may yet shine through future generations.
2nd – Rosetta
Rosetta’s tenacious rally to complete a stable quinella in the Oaks earned admiration, but her post-Oaks trajectory has been quiet. Limited appearances and lingering issues led to her early retirement. She now resides at stud, carrying hopes that her grit will pass on to her foals.
3rd – Amma
Amma delivered a standout performance in the Oaks, arguably the highlight of her brief career. Despite flashes of promise, she too was retired early and is now among Jamaica’s broodmare population.
4th – Comehometome
One of the most resilient stories in this cohort, Comehometome was sidelined by injury for much of her fourth year. Yet just last weekend, she made a rousing return to competition, finishing second in a spirited run. With that performance, she’s well positioned to work her way through the conditions bracket. Comehometome had a major success after her participation in oaks when she won in convincing fashion, the Winston Griffiths Classic.
5th – Buttercup
Still active, Buttercup remains a consistent, if unspectacular, competitor. Though yet to break through at a higher level, she continues to earn her keep and retains potential for incremental gains.
6th – Blu Sensation
Blu Sensation remains active but has yet to distinguish herself. Her performances have been workmanlike, but she’s yet to make meaningful waves in competitive company.
7th – O So Smart
Plagued by persistent health issues, O So Smart has become an infrequent presence on the racetrack. Her future remains uncertain.
8th – Lucy in the Sky
Despite lofty early expectations, Lucy in the Sky has not realized her projected potential. She’s currently campaigning in the $700,000 claiming ranks—a far cry from her Classic bid, but still within reach of redemption.
9th – Princess Fianie
Princess Fianie has made little impact since the Oaks. Still in the process of completing her four-year-old conditions, her trajectory remains stalled.
10th – Lady Lauren
Lady Lauren has shown flashes of ability but continues to be hindered by recurring health complications. Her appearances have been sporadic.
11th – She’s That Girl
She’s That Girl has been absent from competitive racing for quite some time. Her future status is unclear, suggesting possible retirement or reassessment by her connections.
12th – Rack Dem
Still around but quiet. Rack Dem has yet to make notable progress and seems to be treading water in her current form.
13th – Sippin On Sunshine
The lowest finisher in the 2024 Oaks remains in action but has shown limited forward movement. Her connections continue to seek the spark that once placed her in the Classic spotlight.
Conclusion A year on, the legacy of the 2024 Jamaica Oaks field reflects the unpredictability and fragility of the sport. While some have found new purpose at stud, others grind it out on the track, chasing form, fitness, or a final flourish. As the 2025 racing season rolls forward, we’ll be watching to see who rises again, and who fades into memory.
