KINGSTON, Jamaica – Cutout’s victory in the third race on Saturday, July 19, 2025, marked the first win of the season for trainer Raymond Townsend, adding significance to what would otherwise have been a routine maiden event.

The race, exclusively for three-year-old maidens going a mile (eight furlongs), offered Townsend a long-awaited return to the winners’ enclosure after ten starts this season. For Cutout, a bay filly sired by Wannabeaplayer out of What’s Your Story, it was only her third career start—a promising milestone early in her development.

With experienced jockey Wesley Henry aboard, Cutout left the gates sharply, asserting her position at the front of the field from the outset. Henry guided her confidently into stride, and although challenged by Jodie’s Fund (ridden by Tyrese Anderson) as the field moved down the backstretch, Cutout maintained her rhythm and refused to concede the lead.

Approaching the final turn, Henry began to ask for more, and Cutout responded with determination. The filly opened up a lead once again turning into the homestretch. Despite a renewed effort from Jodie’s Fund in the closing stages, Cutout held her ground with authority, crossing the finish line 2¼ lengths ahead. The final time, 1:46.1, didn’t reflect a particularly swift run, but the tactical execution and front-running composure highlighted Cutout’s growing potential and ability to manage race pressure.

Jodie’s Fund secured the runner-up spot, while Miss Braeton finished third.

For Townsend, the win represented not just relief, but confirmation that patience and careful placement can pay off, especially with a young horse still finding her footing.
