Champion reinsman of 2022 Dane Dawkins was in double riding form with Gary Subratie’s maiden filly, Margarita (1-1) outsprinting her eight rivals over seven lengths in opening five furlongs round contest.
Three parts of an hour later, Dawkins was back in the winners’ enclosure as So Beautiful the 3-5 favourite, saddled by Phillip Elliott, led and was never headed to beat nearest rival by five and a quarter lengths over a similar distance in race two.
Predictably, race three, a maiden event for native and imported three-year-olds was won by Canadian bred maiden Miss Grove (1-5) with 2011 champion Dick Cardenas aboard for trainer Anthony Nunes.
Claimer Demar Williams for the first of his riding double was astride to assist trainer Patrick Lynch’s 4-5 bet Pineapple (USA) to secure a three-and-half-length success over the five furlongs straight of race four.
Race five heralded the figurative sound of the fanfare for the curtain raiser of the Raddesh Roman four-timer. Bet at 6-5 favourite, Cataba, declared by Adrian Prince, was the opener of a stable triple for the aspiring young trainer. In front from the start, the six-year-old mare led and ran well inside the last furlong of six to hold an advantage of one and half lengths safely.
Roman followed up immediately to land race six with the Patrick Lynch trained Lion Charmer (8-5) producing an irresistible turn of finishing speed over against the far rails to give her a lead of four lengths and a quarter at the end of the six-furlong run.
The Roman blitz was delayed by the intervening seventh event with US -bred imported and 2-5 bet racing machine Incredible Jo (Reyan Lewis), securing the Adrian Prince second of the stable’s three.
In taking this seven-furlong Restricted Stakes by over 17 lengths with a 1:23.4 clocking is the quickest posted for years. Then Roman was further delayed by race eight, over six and a half furlongs, won by Medal Award (7-1) declared by Lorne Kirlew in confirming Demar Williams’ riding double.
The regular Roman service was resumed in race nine with Philip Feanny’s 3-5 bet Unbelievable Force (USA) scoring in the featured Millard Ziadie Memorial Cup over five and a half furlongs and retuning a margin of four lengths and a quarter.
In tandem with Prince, for his three and best day in the training ranks as well as Roman’s four-timer, Prolific Prince (4-5) was ten lengths the best in the Monday Morning Trophy over seven furlongs.
