The Labour Day Trophy, set for Friday, May 23, 2025, honours the traditional national holiday with a competitive field of eleven horses racing over seven furlongs at the Overnight Allowance level.
Here’s a closer look at each contender and their prospects.
- FINAL LOAD: A determined gelding who has fought hard to reach this level. However, as this is his debut in Overnight Allowance, he may need time to settle in and adjust to the increased competition.
- WHIZZ KIDD: Facing a stiff field, Whizz Kidd is unlikely to trouble the frontrunners in this contest.
- FURTHER AND BEYOND: A seasoned campaigner known for occasional flashes of brilliance. While his talent is undeniable, consistency remains a challenge. The addition of a visor may help sharpen his focus.
- MPRS LINKS: Outclassed at this level, MPRS Links will find this assignment tough.
- IMMEASURABLE JOY: Comes into this race fresh off a victory, but stepping into Overnight Allowance presents a new challenge. Against more experienced rivals, securing a spot on the board may be the best possible outcome.
- SISTREN TREASURE: After an encouraging third-place finish last time, Sistren Treasure is expected to put in another solid effort. However, it’s worth noting that she hasn’t secured a win since September 2024.
- MAJOR DANGER: Produced a credible fourth-place finish behind Mahogany over 5 ½ furlongs on April 21, following nearly five months away from the track. That effort suggests improvement is likely, making him a strong contender.
- BLUE VINYL: A classy performer whose career has been hindered by health issues. His recent third-place finish signals potential, and if he’s anywhere near his best, Blue Vinyl will be a formidable force.
- FEARLESS FORCE: Scored a victory in her last outing (April 12) and has already proven she can handle this level. That performance alone makes her a serious contender for another strong showing.
- STOMP THE RHYTHM: Despite multiple attempts at Overnight Allowance, he has yet to make a significant impact. Improvement is needed to be competitive in this line-up.
- INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD: Since winning the Jamaica St Leger last July, he hasn’t replicated that form. However, promising workout performances suggest he could produce a surprisingly strong effort.
