KINGSTON, Jamaica – May 17, 2025 – The thrill of two victories reverberated through Caymanas Park on Saturday (May 17) as trainer Byron Davis secured two triumphs on the nine-race card.
Davis celebrated wins with Last Hoorah in the fourth event and Midnight Flight in the seventh, pushing his tally of victories for the year to three.
The veteran gelding Last Hoorah, at 9-1 odds, finally shook free of his maiden status after 32 starts, in which the seven-year-old bay (by Who’s Staying On out of Orchist) had previously amassed just under $800,000 in earnings.
Guided by jockey Everette Clunis, Last Hoorah made a decisive move over the five-straight course, storming home by 3 ¾ lengths to break his long-standing winless streak.
While Last Hoorah's victory was significant, the performance of Midnight Flight proved even more striking.
Having not raced since February 23, the four-year-old grey filly (by Midnight Hawk out of Honeymoon Bay) returned to competition in formidable fashion.
With a defiant effort, she managed to hold off Smart Trick in the final furlong, crossing the line in 58.3 seconds on a sloppy track.
The win marked Midnight Flight’s fourth career success, elevating her to the Overnight Allowance class—a significant milestone for the talented filly.
