KINGSTON, Jamaica - This Saturday, April 5, 2025, the fourth race promises a showdown for locally bred three-year-olds alongside a competitive maiden event for overseas-bred challengers, both set to cover a swift 5 ½ furlongs.
With seven spirited contenders—four locals and three foreign entrants—this sprint is dissected by The Quick Galloper in post-position order.
1 - MIGHTY GULLY: This bay filly (born April 21) is by Buzz Nightmare out of Lady Exotic, trained by Robert Pearson and ridden by Tajay Suckoo. Despite a triumphant debut, Mighty Gully has faced challenges in her subsequent outings, including a disappointing performance in the Hot Line Stakes. However, her potential remains undeniable—she might just surprise everyone with a late surge for a place in the top four and possibly closer.
2 - PRINCESS KRIS: A bay filly from the USA (born April 1), she’s sired by Goldencents and out of Sugar Babe, under the guidance of trainer Norman Smith with Demar Williams in the saddle. Although this swift foreigner has not lived up to expectations across five previous starts. No change is expected.
3 - ENTHUSIASM: This bay filly (born March 12) by Wow Wow, out of Noon It Is, is in the hands of trainer Anthony Nunes, with Tyrese Anderson at the reins. Sporting a visor for the first time, Enthusiasm had a winning start last December, toppling the future Sir Howard winner, Honour Prince. After a lacklustre follow-up race where she faced challenges, the visor indicates her readiness to shine once more. Keep a close eye on her, as she appears poised for a comeback.
4 - ANOTHER ONE: This bay colt (born March 18) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Chinitagoodaz, is trained by Anthony Nunes, with Shane Ellis holding the reins. After a valiant effort leading the pack in the 6-furlong Sir Howard but faltering in the final furlong making the reduced distance in this encounter an advantage for Another One’s. With less intimidating competition, he’s primed for a shot at his second victory.
5 - BOWMORE: A bay colt from the USA (born April 10) by Complexity out of Colonel Dettwiller, trained by Phillip Lee and piloted by Richie Shakes, Bowmore has speed. This makes make him a formidable challenger, and he’s certainly a top pick for the exacta.
6 - BIG BUZZ: This bay colt (born April 15) by Buzz Nightmare out of Lady Tarkari is under the direction of trainer Adrian Prince and features Dick Cardenas aboard. Making his debut in non-two competition, Big Buzz arrives with the advantage of first-time Lasix after a victorious outing. While the stakes are higher in this race, expect this colt to unleash his potential amidst tougher opponents.
7 - MISS MARBELLA: A bay filly from the USA (born February 13), she’s sired by Echo Town out of Lola’s Kisses, trained by Peter-John Parsard, with Reyan Lewis set to ride. As a first-time entrant, Miss Marbella has been moving well in workouts, including a 1:00.1 spin for five furlongs on March 16. She’s a dark horse to keep in mind, capable of making waves on race day.
