Racehorse Owner, Singer, Cocoa Tea Moves On

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Colvin “Cocoa Tea” Scott, the esteemed reggae singer and long-time owner, has passed away at the age of 65. Cocoa Tea died in a Miami hospital after being hospitalized for several months.

Cocoa Tea was a respected figure in the horse racing community, owning several horses under the banner of ‘Fisherman’s Stables.’ Throughout his time as a racehorse owner, he frequently celebrated victories in the winners’ enclosure and was a beloved presence at the racetrack. Some of the many horses owned by Cocoa Tea over the years include Tyranny, Valley Of Kings, Alderbaran, Yes She Will, Just A Slew, Rave, She's Got The Power, Red Lion and Rocking Dolly Scott. 

Born on September 3, 1959, Cocoa Tea gained prominence in the mid-1980s with a string of hit songs, including “She Loves Me Now,” “I Lost My Sonia,” “Sweet Sweet Cocoa Tea,” “Israel's King,” “Riker's Island,” “Holy Mount Zion” (which featured on the Kette Drum riddim in 1995), “Weh Di Drugs,” and “Zeeks.” His last major hit was 1993's “Good Life.”
