KINGSTON, Jamaica - Coco Chanel might not have lived up to early expectations, but she repaired a bit of the damage with a purposeful win over seven furlongs (1400 metres) on Saturday (December 28) at Caymanas Park.

A three-year-old bay filly by Casual Trick-Wagon Wheel, trained by Ian Parsard, Coco Chanel from nine starts has accumulated two wins.

Installed as the 5/1 chance, in a Restricted Allowance II for three-year-olds–non-winners of two call, Coco Chanel marked time at the back of the pack in the early part of the race.

With Dane Dawkins in the saddle, Coco Chanel began to run freely and after an opening was negotiated at the top of the straight, she went on to win by 2 ¾ lengths in a time of 1:26.3.

Thepowersthatbe held firm for second money ridden by Javaniel Patterson with San Siro (Shane Ellis) in third-place.

"The challenges in racing are too numerous to count and that is why when you win there is so much joy around the stables

“It is not an easy task getting a horse to the starting gates and then to win. The hurdles come at you daily and these hurdles come in so many different forms that it is unbelievable. So, when you can put everything together to gain a victory, it is worth celebrating.

“Coco Chanel is a nice horse, but a little below what I term initial expectations, as we were hoping that she was going to be a Classic horse when we bought her.

“She has won two races and that’s ok. Coco Chanel is paying her way and the good thing is that we have found a rider that understands her.

“Going seven furlongs today (Saturday), when I saw the jockey angle her out to get a clear run and saw her motoring, I said that it is going to be all over.

“I am hopeful that she will continue to earn her way but I think that she will struggle a bit in the higher classes,” trainer Parsard shared.
