KINGSTON, Jamaica - The highlight of the day on Saturday, November 16, 2024, will be the tenth race, known as the United Racehorse Trainers’ Association (URTAJ) Trophy.
This race features ten impressive horses that are either imported three-year-olds and older (who haven't won more than two races) or native-bred three and four-year-olds (who haven't won more than three races). The race will cover a distance of 9 furlongs and 25 yards. Here’s a look at the horses competing:
- **UNRULY DON**: Although this horse won his last race on October 26, it may not perform well against these stronger competitors.
- **AMMA**: This talented filly excels in longer races and won her last race on October 19 over the same distance as Saturday’s. Amma is a natural leader and will likely try to set the pace, making her a strong contender despite the tough competition.
- **CAPTAIN SPARROW**: This horse was expected to do well in a previous race but didn't perform as hoped. However, in the Jamaica Derby (12 furlongs), Captain Sparrow came close to some of the best competitors at the three-year-old level, and is expected to produce a better performance this time.
- **PRINCE AMAAN**: This horse has mostly raced shorter distances recently and may struggle with the longer length of this race.
- ROSETTA**: She had a disappointing performance in her last race. While she's been training well, she might not be a top competitor here but could still be a factor in the lower finishes.
- **ZULU WARRIOR**: Unfortunately, this horse is not expected to perform well in this race.
- **SHEER DELIGHT**: This horse, originally from the USA, has had two races in Jamaica, finishing third both times. Sheer Delight is eager for a win in Jamaica, especially with the upcoming Mouttet Mile in mind. Sheer Delight is now given an opportunity to achieve a win in Jamaica despite carrying top weight. If Sheer Delight is to have any impact in the Mouttet Mile, he has to win here. Note that Sheer Delight races with the blinkers and the figure eight on.
- **MACK AND ROME**: After a strong win on October 20, this horse has shown he can perform well at this distance. However, leading the pack won't be easy, which is Mack And Rome’s preferred choice of running. Even with this perceived problem, Mack And Rome still has a good chance of success.
- **BRENDA BOY**: This horse may struggle to keep up in this race.
- **PRINCESS AMAHLE**: After finishing second to Mack and Rome in a recent race, her chances of winning this time around are looking slim with tough competition ahead.
