KINGSTON, Jamaica - Patriarch, still looking fresh after coming off a four-month break, used his class and talent to dispatch rivals in the top-rated Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance event going five-furlongs (1,000m) straight on Friday, December 6, 2019, at Caymanas Park.
Patriarch last raced on August 1 in a five-and-a-half furlong (1,100m) contest in which the four-year-old bay colt finished a disappointing last of six runners, nine lengths behind winner Zephyr, Another Vigorous and Ras Emanuel.
That race was at the Open Allowance level and with Patriarch stepping down in class, he made no mistake when beating stable companion, the in-form Prince Charles, under Aaron Chatrie.
Dane Nelson was asked to do the riding honours and the bustling rider was brilliant in the saddle in guiding home Patriarch to a ¾ length victory in a quick time of 57.3 seconds.
At the off, Patriarch, who is known for pure speed, disputed the early lead with Sir JhunJhun Wala (Paul Francis) in the middle of the racetrack with American Invader (Omar Walker) on the outside showing good speed as well.
Leaving the dummy rails, Patriarch assumed control of the race with American Invader chasing. Inside the final furlong (200m) Patriarch kicked clear, Prince Charles came running on, but Nelson with his brilliance, kept his mount well balanced and held on for the win. Prince Charles lost no marks in defeat but had to settle for second place.
K D Flyer (Dane Dawkins) was third in the event for three-year-olds and upwards.
Patriarch, a four-year-old bay colt by Casual Trick – Electrifying, is bred and owned by Elias Haloute and is trained by Anthony Nunes.
