KINGSTON, Jamaica – Caymanas Park experienced a thrilling upset on Saturday, October 26, 2024, as the 46-1 longshot Exotic Light defied the odds to claim victory in the three-year-old and upward Claiming ($750,000-$600,000) race.
Owned and trained by Edward Stanberry, with Roger Hewitt in the saddle, Exotic Light dominated the 5 ½ furlong event. The bay filly crossed the finish line a comfortable 2 ¾ lengths ahead of her more fancied rivals, clocking a time of 1:10.0.
The race began with Rhosa The Warrior setting the early pace, followed closely by Cappuccino, Alexa’s Lodge, and Storm A Come. Exotic Light, meanwhile, lingered at the back of the pack.
As the field approached the half-mile mark, Exotic Light remained towards the rear. However, nearing the homestretch, she began to make significant strides. Rounding the final bend, Exotic Light closed in on the leaders, including Rhosa The Warrior, Alexa’s Lodge, and Loyal Action.
