KINGSTON, Jamaica—The third race, on Saturday, October 19, 2024, is for two-year-old maidens running a sprint distance of five furlongs round.
Seven are entered with two racing for the first time.
The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the possible outcome is done in post-position order.
1 - DANKA is a chestnut filly (January 24) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Baby P, trained by Richard Azan with Dane Dawkins aboard. She was the early pacesetter when making her debut on September 14. Danka in that four-furlong straight call lost ground in the final furlong to finish second, 4 ½ lengths behind the winner Burning Hedge. With that experience in her hoofs, this progeny of new stallion Aveenu Malcainu is expected to be stronger and fitter. More than likely Danka will lead and will have to be caught, plus she has been working well in the mornings.
2 - SIMPLY ENCHANTING is a chestnut filly (March 24) by Soul Warrior out of My Elle Belle, trained by Oral Hayden with Raddesh Roman in the saddle. Note that Simply Enchanting races with first-time Lasix. Was not far behind Danka also on September 14, finishing fifth running on mildly inside the final furlong. Simply Enchanting has to be given a favourable chance of winning this one.
3 - PLATINUM PRINCESS is a bay filly (January 17) by Bern Identity out of Native Gold, trained by Anthony Nunes with Dick Cardenas as the designated rider. Note that Platinum Princess races with first-time Lasix. Becomes the first 2024 juvenile to race three times. Platinum Princess’s first outing on August 1 was a noticeable one, finishing second, four lengths adrift of the winner, the accomplished Miss MoneyPenny. Platinum Princess returned six weeks later (September 14 and put in a clinker, finishing seventh behind Burning Hedge. The Quick Galloper is willing to take out of consideration that last effort by Platinum Princess, thereby giving her a good look on Saturday.
4 - MR LEE is a bay filly (January 17) by Spieth out of Kipling Weekend, trained by Lee Clarke with Matthew Bennett holding the reins. Not ready as yet.
5 - ASCEND is a chestnut filly (March 23) by Bern Identity out of Twist “N” Turn, trained by Barrington Bernard with Roger Hewitt riding. Will benefit from this first outing.
6 - BEAUTIFUL SUNSET is a chestnut filly (April 26) by Northern Giant out of Excellence, trained by Jason DaCosta with Victor Sanchez in the saddle. Note that Beautiful Sunset races with first-time Lasix. Racing for the second occasion, Beautiful Sunset did nothing to suggest that winning this one is a possibility.
7 - BADGAL CALEESI is a bay filly (January 19) by Buzz Nightmare out of Turbinia, trained by Howard Bailey with Aaron Chatrie aboard. Note that Badgal Caleesi races with the blinkers on. The learning process continues for Badgal Caleesi.
