KINGSTON, Jamaica - KINGSTON, Jamaica - Miss Moneypenny, trained by Jason, became the first two-year-old in the 2024 season to win two races on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Caymanas Park.
Miss Moneypenny, a chestnut filly by Bern Identity out of Pomeroy’s Secret, was ridden by Tevin Foster and achieved this feat in just two starts. The race was the first for two-year-olds going around the bend, and the distance was 5 ½ furlongs.
Trainer Jason DaCosta was pleased with the performance of his filly, stating: “Miss Moneypenny is a nice filly. She was able to lead today and successfully dealt with an early threat before pulling away in the straight. With time, Miss Moneypenny will improve once she stays healthy, which is something we are working on constantly at the stable.
THE RACE REVIEW IN FINISHING ORDER:
FIRST - MISS MONEYPENNY: Wasted not time to take the lead when the gates opened. There was a pile-up of three runners vying for the early lead but after the horses completed a furlong and a half, Miss Moneypenny took control. Entering the straight Miss Moneypenny had a small advantage, then there was a change of hold by Foster, with the filly pulling off for an easy win by four lengths. The winning time was 1:08.1 behind splits of 23.4 x 48.2. Miss Moneypenny is now the leading two-year-old this season with a lot of scope for development. Of note, Miss Moneypenny raced with first time Lasix.
SECOND - UNSPUN: Mixed it up early in the contest, then backed out a bit before moving while circling the last part of the bend to be in a challenging position at the top of the lane. Unspun finished six lengths ahead of the third-place finisher.
THIRD - BURNING HEDGE: Raced prominently for the first three furlongs but had nothing to give in the straight and ended up ten lengths behind the winner.
FOURTH - SASH IT: Got off to an indifferent start and was never able to recover to affect the outcome.
FIFTH - FLAG OF VICTORY: Came down from the outside draw to vie for the lead during the first furlong and a half, then faded away badly to finish at the back of the pack. It appeared that all was not right with Flag of Victory at the end of the race.
