KINGSTON, Jamaica -  On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the fifth race will feature three-year-old horses.

Locally bred horses that have not won more than twice will compete, along with maiden foreign-bred three-year-olds.

The race will cover a distance of six furlongs, and below are the details of the nine competing horses, along with The Quick Galloper’s assessment.

1 - SPINAL TAP - A bay filly (USA April 12) by Tiznow out of Illapa, trained by Phillip Lee with Paul Francis as the jockey. Spinal Tap races with a tongue tie but has not shown potential to win in its three previous starts.

2 - SMART TRICK - A bay colt (February 1) by Casual Trick out of Crafty Lady, trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster riding. Smart Trick has finished fourth and second in its last two non-two races, indicating readiness for this level. The distance of six furlongs suits Smart Trick, making him a strong contender for a win.

3 - SMALL BOSS - A bay colt (March 30) by Conquest Cherimash out of Princess Sallema, trained by Adrian Prince with Matthew Bennett as the jockey. Small Boss is just entering non-winners of two races and still has room for improvement.

4 - ZULU WARRIOR - A chestnut colt (April 27) by Soul Warrior out of Lookatmenow, trained by Howard Bailey with Calvin Bailey as the rider. Zulu Warrior has adapted well since entering this level on August 24 and is suited for the six-furlong distance. The change of rider from Tevin Foster to Calvin Bailey is the only concern.

5 - DESIGN DIVA - A bay filly (May 31) by Savoy Stomp out of Tashara, trained by Anthony Dixon with Dane Dawkins as the jockey. Design Diva is a new entrant in this class and will benefit from the shorter six-furlong distance after previously racing over nine furlongs.

6 - POPE’S LADY - A bay filly (USA February 8) by Catholic Boy out of Cheers To That, trained by Steven Todd with Raddesh Roman as the jockey. Pope’s Lady races without a tongue tie and is yet to win in eight starts. Pope’s Lady has speed and is expected to set the early pace in the race.

7 - FIRST GRANDSON - A bay colt (February 4) by Casual Trick out of Peyton’s Delight, trained by Patrick Lynch with Samantha Fletcher riding. First Grandson races with blinkers and a tongue tie. Despite being in non-two races for a while, it has not made a significant impact.

8 - FIRST OFFENCE - A bay colt (February 21) by Conquest Cherimash out of Official Report, trained by Steven Todd with Victor Sanchez as the jockey. First Offence is expected to compete for a place on the board.

9 - LADY LAUREN - A bay filly (February 27) by Deputy Glitters out of Anna, trained by Steven Todd with Phillip Parchment riding. Lady Lauren is still learning to race at the non-two level.
