KINGSTON, Jamaica - Three-year-old chestnut filly Fearless ABI (Fearless Vision - Abicadabby) owned by Oakridge Farms, bred by Donald Wehby and conditioned for racing by Christopher Pierre delivered a first victory for her connections on Wednesday, November 27 at Caymanas Park.
Running for the second time, the nimble-footed filly took the bull by the horns to win a maiden event for native-bred three-year-old runners going five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100 metres).
Fearless ABI ridden by Dane Dawkins, for the second time, was sent off as the 1/5 favourite, won by five lengths in a time of 1:07.4 with fractions of 23.2 by 47.0 flat.
“She [Fearless ABI] is still pretty young, still a little bit flat, but she’s a very, very good horse and with careful development, she could become even more capable.
“Fearless ABI has the appearance of one going places as she develops; she is heading in the right direction.
“We need just to take it one day at a time with her and see how far she takes us,” Pierre start.
Commenting further, the trainer who was winning his first race of the year gave other insights on the future of his filly. “I expect great things. Yes, great things as this was only her second run and the final time today [Wednesday] of 1:07.4 is one which we certainly can work with. So, we are hopeful, and as a result, we are going to work day by day to ensure that Fearless ABI is kept in good health.”
