KINGSTON, Jamaica - Trainer Steven Todd continued his superb form when he saddled the first two winners on the 10-race programme. Todd won with Luana in the first race and Lion of Judah in the second.
Todd, who claimed Luana (Casual Trick – Diamondntheruff) for $250,000 on last, stepped up the four-year-old bay filly to the $350,000-$300,000 claiming spread and the result was a one-length victory in the Pick-3 Easy To Win Bonanza Trophy over one mile (1,600m).
Luana, under Anthony Thomas, picked up the lead approaching the distance and came home ahead of Mirabilis (Omar Walker) and Doctor Grey (Roger Hewitt). The final time for the event was 1:42.0.
With Dane Nelson aboard Lion of Judah took the Pick-3 Straight Trophy over five furlongs straight. Lion of Judah won by 1 ¼ lengths in a time of 1:02.4.
It was an even start for the runners as Boss Izzy (Kiaman McGregor), Ballerina Steel (Larris Allen) and Let It Snow (Chalrick Budhai) showing the way.
Let It Snow, who assumed full control of the race after the first furlong, gave way coming across the dummy rails and this left the space for Lion of Judah to come through urged on by firm handling from Nelson for the win. Lady Budget (Roger Hewitt) finished second and Boss Izzy third.
