KINGSTON, Jamaica - The seventh race on Saturday, June 15, 2024, is being run in honour of 2010 Triple Crown winner, Mark My Word.
The event is for Open Allowance horses going the two turns of nine furlongs and 25 yards.
Five are entered, with The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the starters provided below.
1 - ABILITY racing for the first time under the care of trainer Fitzgerald Richards, the former Derby winner ran on strongly to nab a pronounced victory over foreigner I Am Fred at six furlongs, a distance which is not his best. Returning to a trip to his liking, Ability despite going six lbs up in the weights, is on course for his second success in Open Allowance. In addition, Ability has been moving smoothly at exercise, and it truly fit and proper for this encounter.
2 - D HEAD CORNERSTONE is way short of his best at present. Needs much more time.
3 - RHYTHM BUZZ won convincingly when achieving his second success in Open Allowance on April 27, and his third in succession. Rhythm Buzz, although lightly raced, has made significant progress in the last six months and is a credit to his connections. That win on April 27 came over the same distance as the Mark My Word, yet given his credentials, it isn't easy seeing Rhythm Buzz getting the better of Ability, with both horses at level weights.
4 - SHE’S MY FRIEND is taking up space in this one.
5 - FUNCAANDUN following four consecutive wins from four starts, enters the realm of Overnight Allowance for the first occasion. This foreigner races around two turns for the first time, with his longest effort being a mile. Funcaandun should not have an issue going two turns, and with his known ability to set the early fractions, he will have to be caught. This is the firmest test for Funcaandun.
