When Teflon Don recorded his second win from three starts travelling down the five straight course on Saturday last (May 11), by the narrowest of margins, the joy on the face of winning trainer Jason DaCosta was even more pronounced.

“There is no doubt that Teflon Don has the ability. He is a handful to deal with, and the team at the stables continue to work overtime in trying to understand him and to get him to perform at his optimum.

“We are not fully at that point as yet, but we are working hard to get it right, while this win has given us huge encouragement, the process of learning the ins and outs of Teflon Don is continuing.

I was pleased with the way he won, coming from well off the pace, indeed, that was a good sign,” DaCosta said in a post-race interview.

Jockey Tevin Foster rallied Teflon Don in the final furlong, to challenge for the lead, ending up in a battle for supremacy with foreigner Magnificent Force (Oneil Mullings).

The two were in combat for most of the final furlong with Teflon Don just able to nose out Magnificent Force with Pope’s Lady taking the third slot.

Teflon Don is a three-year-old bay colt by Casual Trick out of The Lady Scored. He won in a final time of 1:01.2. The splits were 23.0 x 47.0.
