KINGSTON, Jamaica - The 2023 edition of The Kingston brought victory for the Richard Azan-trained, Dane Dawkins-ridden, Mojito.

The Kingston now listed as one of the major prep races for the Classic events is designated for three-year-old colts and geldings at a distance of 7 ½ furlongs.

The Quick Galloper investigates the 2023 The Kingston, to find out where are the 12 participants at the present stage of their respective careers.

This review is done in finishing order.

FIRST: Mojito - It was another command performance by Mojito, who made it two wins from as many starts in his three-year-old career, having earned his first success in the Prince Consort Stakes - 7 furlongs). Mojito went on to win the 2000 Guineas, then after leading for a long way backed out in the straight. Raced in the Mouttet Mile without an impact. Mojito has not raced since the Mouttet Mile, with trainer Richard Azan reporting that Mojito is at the stables recuperating from his health issues. Mojito is not expected to race soon.

SECOND: Huntsman - This chestnut colt has had to deal with many issues, and eventually changed stables. He has now raced 17 times scoring wins on three occasions. Huntsman has been re-energised in recent times with two significant runs. Huntsman will accomplish his task of four wins, thereby moving to Overnight Allowance.

THIRD: Sensational Move - Took a while to develop his talent, having had to deal with injury issues. Progressed in the right direction in the early part of this year, yet the issues have persisted leading to limited starts by Sensational Move.

FOURTH: Ability - Achieved glory by winning the 12-furlong Jamaica Derby with a searing run under the guidance of veteran rider, Allen Maragh. After his Derby glory, Ability raced in the Mouttet Mile, delivering his best-ever performance, finishing second behind foreigner Rough Entry. As a four-year-old, Ability has been a dominating force in the higher grades.

FIFTH: Secret Admiral - He is still trying to work through his age group conditions, did however, give a glimpse of his possibilities with a third-place finish in the Jamaica Derby.

SIXTH: Rejected Raja - Has done well enough to reach the level of Overnight Allowance.

SEVENTH: Burning Valor - It has been a difficult time for Burning Valor.

EIGHTH: Kai On The Go - Has found it difficult since The Kingston. Now has a career record of 14 starts with two wins and earnings of $1.35 million.
