KINGSTON, Jamaica - The eighth race on Sunday, April 14, 2024, is Division Two of the three-year-old maiden call will feature exclusively fillies.
Ten maidens will compete over a sprint of 5 ½ furlongs, and The Quick Galloper provides an insightful preview of the contenders.
1 - FAITH DOWNIE: This bay filly, born on May 29 and sired by Soul Warrior out of Agnes T, is under the seasoned guidance of Fitzgerald Richards, with Robert Halledeen taking the reins. FAITH DOWNIE has shown promising fluidity in morning gallops, indicating that this race could provide a valuable learning experience for her.
2 - ANOTHER MISSION: Hopes were high for this chestnut filly, born on May 23 and a progeny of Bern Identity and Moonlight Brew, when she made her debut on February 15. Trained by Oral Hayden and with Youville Pinnock as her jockey, ANOTHER MISSION failed to turn heads in her first showing and might be one to overlook for now.
3 - HAVAJOY: Another chestnut filly, HAVAJOY was born on April 21, by Legal Process out of Lady Tarkari. Donovan Thompson is her trainer, and Rudolph Paige will be guiding her in the race, equipped with a tongue tie. Her initial outing left much to be desired, making her an unlikely candidate for the win.
4 - ROMAN PRINCESS: With four races under her belt, this April 1-born chestnut filly by Soul Warrior out of Lovely Day has been a model of consistency. Saqlain Roman's training and Oneil Mullings' riding skills may give ROMAN PRINCESS the edge she needs to triumph over less formidable competition.
5 - NAISHINNO: A dark bay filly born on March 29, sired by Emperor Hall and Winningitis, NAISHINNO is under the care of Ricardo Brown, with Andrew Wright set to ride. She appears to have a significant journey ahead before victory becomes a viable prospect.
6 - PRINCESS FIANIE: This bay filly, born on January 15 and by Soul Warrior out of Ship Sam, is trained by Rudolph Hardial, with Tevin Foster as her jockey. Racing with both a tongue tie and figure eight, PRINCESS FIANIE showed potential by finishing third in her March 23 debut. She's one to watch after likely having benefited from that experience.
7 - HIT N RUN: Jason DaCosta's trainee, HIT N RUN, is a bay filly born on May 9. Sired by Sunshine N Shadow and The Vibes Lady, she will be without blinkers with Abigail Able in the saddle. Despite finishing fifth in her first race, HIT N RUN will need to show marked improvement to be a contender here.
8 - HIMAYA: With many races to her name, HIMAYA, a roan filly born on March 23 by Casual Trick out of Raksha, is a wild card. Trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Josue Osorio, her performance is erratic, making it tough to predict her chances.
9 - VALLEY OF LOVE: Sired by Spieth and May Flower, this bay filly was born on March 30. Trained by Phillip Elliott and with Ramon Nepare holding the reins, VALLEY OF LOVE will also race without blinkers but with Lasix for the first time. Her fourth-place finish on January 6 is enough for The Quick Galloper to consider her a serious contender.
10 - LADY SARSUTTA: A May 5-born bay filly by Here Comes Ben and Lady Sharvani, LADY SARSUTTA has been agile at exercise. Under Fitzgerald Richards' training and with Roderick DaCosta as her jockey, she's been marked as one to keep an eye on.
