Three Changes To Mouttet Mile 2024

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Three changes have been made by the promoting company, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited to the conditions applicable to the 2024 staging of the Mouttet Mile.

This was announced today (Tuesday. March 12) at a press conference in Kingston.

The three changes are;

1 - Ten starting stalls will be made available for horses domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024.

2 - Six starting stalls will be allocated to horses not domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024.

3 - The winners of the following races will gain automatic entry in the Mouttet Mile: 1) The Jamaica Derby, 2) The Jamaica Cup, 3) The Philip Feanny Gold Cup, and 4) The Port Royal Sprint.

Note, in the 2023 Mouttet Mile, 12 stalls were reserved for for horses domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024, and four for horses not domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024.

Divided: $20,900,000; $7,000,000; $3,450,000; $1,900,000; $1,150,000; $800,000 $400,000; $400,000; $400,000 and $400,000 to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th placed horses respectively and $1,200,000 to the breeder of the winning horses. THE COMMEMORATIVE TROPHY valued at $250,000 will be won outright by the winning owner. The winning Breeder, Trainer, Jockey, and Groom will also receive Trophies. 1 - Purses will be paid as follows:

(a)Owner 70%, Trainer 15%, Jockey 10%, Groom 5%.

(b)Breeders bonus will be paid based on RULE 231 of the Jamaica Racing Commission Racing Rules 1977.

2 - Nomination fee of $150,000 payable to SUPREME VENTURES RACING & ENTERTAINMENT LIMITED AS FOLLOWS:

(a) $20,000 on or before 4:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024(non-refundable)

(The list of entrants will be published on/or before Thursday, November 21, 2024). 

(b) $130,000 on or before 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024 (refundable only if the horse is scratched by the JRC/ SVREL Veterinarian, Starter)(The list of entrants will be published on/or before Monday, December 2, 2024) 

    (c) All Trainers must confirm the participation of their horse/s in writing (entry blank)with the Racing Office by 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

(d) The declaration of Jockeys, equipment, and medication (Lasix) will close at 11:30 am on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

(e) The draw for the post position will be conducted on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.(Time to be announced)

(f) ALL horses declared to start are subject to a veterinary examination at Scratch Time on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. (8:30am-11:30am).

(g)ALL horses racing in Jamaica for the first time will require a Starter’s Certificate from the resident Starter at Caymanas Park.

  1. The maximum field is 16.
  • 10 positions will be reserved for horses domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024
  • 6 positions will be reserved for horses not domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024.

Owners/trainers MUST provide a letter of intent to participate to the Racing Secretary by September 30, 2024.

The Past Performances of the horse/s must also be submitted by September 30, 2024.

Horses will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Highest year-to-date earnings (USD)inclusive of earnings in Jamaica will also be used in the selection process. (January 1, 2024 – November 30, 2024).

(c) If there are no entrants from (b)above, the remaining positions will be filled by horses domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, 2024.

(d) All horses(a)&(c) will be selected based on the highest year-to-date earnings in Jamaica.(January 1, 2024 – November 30, 2024)

(e) Earnings in Races other than Graded, Graded/Open Allowance, Open Allowance, Overnight Allowance &/or Restricted Stakes are NOT CONSIDERED.

(f) Maidens and untrieds are NOT ELIGIBLE.

6 - WEIGHT ALLOTMENT

  • BASIC WEIGHT: 126lb, FILLIES and MARES ALLOWED... 5lb, NATIVE BRED 3-Y-O ALLOWED…2lb.
  • The BASIC WEIGHT will be applied to the race with only horses domiciled in Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad & Tobago before January 1, 2024.
  • Should there be one or more horses entered that are not domiciled in Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad & Tobago before January 1, 2024, the following will apply:
  1. The Basic Weight will be applied to horse/s not domiciled in Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago before January 1, 2024. NO OTHER ALLOWANCES ARE APPLICABLE.
  1. A 5lb allowance will be applied to the Basic Weight along with all other allowances where applicable to all horses domiciled in Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad & Tobago before January 1, 2024.
  • Horses that have won 2 or more 3-Y-O and up Grade I (Graded &/or Graded/Open Allowance) races since January 1, 2024, carry the basic weight.
  • Horses that have won one 3-Y-O and up Grade I (Graded &/or Graded/Open Allowance) race since January 1, 2024, allowed...2lb.
  • Horses that have won 2 or more Open Allowance races or two or more 3-Y-O-only Grade I races since January 1, 2024, allowed. 4lb
  • Horses that have won one Open Allowance and/or one 3-y-o only Grade 1 race since January 1, 2024, allowed. ......6lb
  • Horses that have won any other race since January 1, 2024, allowed.  .. .. .. .. .. 8lb.
  • Horses that have NOT won a race at 7 furlongs or over since January 1, 2024, allowed . . . . . . 2lb.

 If at the close of entries, there are no horse/s entered whose weight is 126lb, then the highest

 weighted horse/s will be adjusted upward to 126lb, and all other horse/s will be adjusted upward

 accordingly.

WEIGHTS FOR HORSES DOMICILED IN JAMAICA, BARBADOS, AND TRINIDAD & TOBAGO WILL BE ALLOTTED BASED ON THE HIGHEST-CLASS RACE/S WON IN JAMAICA OR THEIR EQUIVALENT IN BARBADOS, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO SINCE JANUARY 1,2024.

  1. promoters this is fantastic,tee shirts for the first 1000 patrons,this must be a festive occasion for jamaica,to all sundry the mile is the draw for everyone but if a mile and a half race which would be only the second one on the local racing calendar could be sponsored for the same day ...mmmm my gosh!! the icing on the cake svl king solomon and company just imagine...please
