KINGSTON, Jamaica - The second race on Saturday, February 24, 2024, a three-year-old maiden call at 6 ½ furlongs will be run in honour of HAM Stables Limited, champion breeders in 2023.
A small field of six horses is entered to compete, with The Quick Galloper’s assessment given below.
1 – DON’T TELL LOU LOU is a three-year-old bay filly (May 8) by Savoy Stomp out of Lastocka, trained by Alford Brown with Omar Walker aboard. Note, Don’t Tell Lou Lou races with the blinkers on, and first-time Lasix. Finished 13 lengths behind winner Grecian Light (December 2) over 5 ½ furlongs. Don’t Tell Lou Lou will have to demonstrate marked improvement to win this one.
2 - KING PIYE is a three-year-old chestnut colt (April 2) by Admiral Alex out of Jamaican Pharaoh, trained by Anthony Nunes, with Robert Halledeen riding. Expectations are high for King Pyie, after progressing smoothly in the mornings. King Pyie, with two five furlongs gallops, and one six furlong, is battle-ready.
3 – BUZZ MARIE is a three-year-old chestnut filly (March 30) by Buzz Nightmare out of Free Marie trained by Lincoln Lungs with Roger Hewitt in the saddle. After four career starts, Buzz Nightmare has not indicated that a winning effort is a possibility.
4 – SPRAGGA is a three-year-old bay colt (April 11) by Savoy Stomp out of Win Bracelet, trained by Lincoln Lungs with Oshane Nugent aboard. The learning curve continues for Spragga, in this his second start.
5 - HICKORY SLIM is a three-year-old chestnut colt (April 12) by Sensational Slam out of Mete-Orite, trained by Ian Parsard with Dane Dawkins riding. This brother of Grade One-based Mahogany makes his long-awaited debut. On February 12, in preparation for his first outing, Hickory Slim galloped five furlongs in an easy 1:04.4. If breeding alone is the main factor in winning, then Hickory Slim is a winner.
6 – ROCK-OLA is a three-year-old (April 3) by Bold Conquest out of Kitty Hawk, trained by Michael Marlowe with Phillip Parchment in the saddle. Did well on debut (August 26, 2023), when finishing fourth by 5 ½ lengths behind winner Lucy In The Sky. Rock-Ola has a good chance of making the exacta.
