KINGSTON, Jamaica – The first race of nine on Saturday, February 17, 2024, is a three-year-old maiden call in which seven are entered going five furlongs round.
This sprint contest has three first-time starters, with The Quick Galloper’s assessment provided below for readers.
1 - KING’S CROWN is a three-year-old chestnut colt (May 2) by Berlino Di Tiger out of Dancing Queen, trained by Steven Todd with Tevin Foster riding. Facing the starter for the first occasion, with some reasonable gallops under his hoofs. The presence of the leading reader is enough to give King’s Crown a look in.
2 – THE SOUL WARRIOR is a three-year-old roan colt (March 21) by Storm Craft out of Amanda Panda, trained by Phillip Lee with Javaniel Patterson aboard. This most experienced of this lot with four career starts to date. In those four starts, The Soul Warrior is yet to provide any evidence that a winning run is in the offing.
3 – SHELLY THE ROCKET is a three-year-old chestnut filly (February 3) by Tapilu out of My Queen, trained by Renex Burrell with Dane Dawkins holding the reins. Finished fourth, 21 lengths behind the winner Speed On Wheels in a slow estimated time of 1:06.4. Shelly The Rocket will not take off on Saturday.
4 – RUBY’S LIGHT is a three-year-old bay filly (May 19) by Casual Trick out of Outrageous, trained by Gary Griffiths with Oshane Nugent riding. Note, that Ruby’s Light races with the blinkers off. Finished third in the same event as Shelly The Rocket. Ruby’s Light with that effort should be better off in this one.
5 - MACK AND ROME is a three-year-old bay colt (February 5) by Bold Conquest out of Gold Miner, trained by Saqlain Roman with Robert Halledeen in the saddle. A first-timer who is slowly riding his way in the mornings without anything spectacular. It is a wait-and-see game with Mack And Rome.
6 – BOLD SHADOW is a three-year-old bay colt (March 25) by Sunshine N Shadow, trained by Patrick Lynch with Youville Pinnock riding. Note, Bold Shadow races with the tongue tie on and the figure eight on. Has three starts to date, finishing third just seven days ago, 11 lengths behind Teflon Don and The General at five furlongs straight. Bold Shadow is getting along slowly with this event providing his best opportunity of getting off the mark.
7 - ROMAN PRINCESS is a three-year-old chestnut filly (April 1) by Soul Warrior out of Lovely Day, trained by Saqlain Roman with Everton Stone holding the reins. This filly is reported to be coming along at exercise and should be watched.
