Alfred Davidson, among the recent graduates from the JRC's 2023 training program, celebrated his first victory as a licenced trainer on February 10, 2024, with Chitu Prince's win in a mixed-class race. The horse, ridden by Raddesh Roman, triumphed by 6 lengths in a time of 1:01.4 over 5 furlongs straight.
Davidson, who has a longstanding history with horse racing, ranging from owner to assistant trainer, expressed gratitude for the win.
Reflecting on his start in racing at 13 and mentorship with Donald Andrade, Davidson's early jockey aspirations were thwarted by weight limits.
However, he pivoted to grooming and ownership, ultimately leading to his current training career. Davidson is determined to continue his journey, honing his skills to produce more winning horses.
“I have been around for a long while, and today (sat, Feb 10) is a great day for me. To win my first race as a trainer is simply fantastic. I am a happy man. For sure, I am looking for more winners,” Davidson said in his post-race interview.
Drawn at 3 in a field of 10 coming down the straight, Roman quickly brought Chitu Prince from the inside to the outside part of the track.
Then, after coming onto the racetrack proper, Chitu Prince found his best stride, pulling away from rivals to win without any discomfort.
