KINGSTON, Jamaica - On Saturday, February 3, 2024, She's A Godgift, an American-bred three-year-old bay filly, triumphed in her local debut, outstripping her rivals across the five-straight (1,000-meter) course.
The progeny of Wildcat Red and Ghostly Direction, She’s A Godgift clinched a decisive 4 ½-length victory over both native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported maidens, clocking in at 59.4 seconds (splits of 23.0 and 47.0).
With Tevin Foster in the saddle, representing owner Suzette Williams and trainer Leroy Tomlinson, She's A Godgift was swift from the gates, tucking in behind early leader Cryptogirl (Omar Walker).
Despite pressure from Comehometome (Jerome Innis) along the false rails, She's A Godgift held her stride. At Foster's urging within the final furlong, she accelerated impressively to secure an easy win over Comehometome and Riches to Rags (Dane Dawkins).
Tomlinson, pleased with her performance, foresees improvement ahead for She's A Godgift.
"I've had her for over a year and a half, since September 2022. There was a disagreement with the previous owner, leading to a sale, and that's when Suzette Williams stepped in to purchase her. She's a charming little filly; I'm quite fond of her," Tomlinson conveyed to this website.
Her workouts had hinted at potential, and while five furlongs straight isn't her ideal, the race fit into her schedule and she delivered.
Tomlinson had hoped for a faster time but was content with her first outing. Post-race, they will assess her condition before plotting her trajectory. "She was meant to race last year, but health issues delayed her. Now, we've given her the necessary time, and she's begun her journey on a high note," he concluded.
