KINGSTON, Jamaica - The 2024 season for three-year-olds kicks off with a maiden race down the five straight course on January 21.

Eight horses are set to compete, including five first-time racers.

The Quick Galloper breaks down the race.

1 – FIRST OFFENSE is a bay colt by Conquest Cherimash out of Official Report, trained by Steven Todd with Dane Dawkins riding. This colt will be wearing a visor and using Lasix for the first time. He's shown promise in two previous starts and is expected to be a strong contender in his second race of 2024, especially after solid morning workouts.

2 – FIRST GRANDSON is a bay colt by Casual Trick out of Peyton’s Delight, trained by Patrick Lynch with Tevin Foster as the jockey. This newcomer has been carefully prepared for his debut. First Grandson ran four furlongs in 51.1 seconds on January 13 and looks set to perform well.

3 – RUBY’S LIGHT is a bay filly by Casual Trick out of Outrageous, trained by Gary Griffiths with Oshane Nugent in charge. Another debutant, she has impressed in morning sessions but may need more time to reach her full potential.

4 – GO WEST YOUNG MAN is a bay colt by Western Warrior out of Uncle Tammy, ridden by Matthew Bennett. He'll run without blinkers this time. Despite equipment changes, winning this race could be a challenge for him.

5 – BOLD SHADOW is a bay colt by Sunshine N Shadow out of Charming Beauty, trained by Patrick Lynch with Robert Halledeen riding. Another first-time racer, his training sessions have been notable. His workouts indicate he's been thoroughly prepared and should be considered a serious competitor.

6 – NEVER is a grey colt by Bern Identity out of Miss Addi, trained by Michael Marlowe with Chrostopher Mamdeen as the jockey. A good-looking colt, he is likely to gain experience from this race.

7 – DESIGN DIVA is a bay filly by Savoy Stomp out of Tashara, trained by Anthony Dixon with Javaniel Patterson riding. She has caught the eye of many and seems ready to do well, as shown by her workouts.

8 – WARRIOR STOMP is a bay colt by Savoy Stomp out of Cup O Tea, trained by Alfred Davidson with Roger Hewitt as the jockey. With the most experience in this group, he led a significant portion of his last race on January 13, finishing third. This experience makes him a strong contender to watch.
